Begum Jaan’ 1st Day Box office collection
Vidya Balan’s highly-anticipated film ‘Begum Jaan’, which hit theatre screens across the country on Friday, opened at the box-office with a gross collection of Rs 3.50 crore nett, according to reports on Boxofficeindia.com.
The film that is a Hindi remake of Srijit Mukherji’s Bengali film ‘Rajkahini’, was released across 900-1100 screens in the country. It sees Vidya Balan playing the titular role of a madam of a brothel, trying to protect her sex workers and their home amidst the looming threat of the India-Pakistan partition. The film also had a smooth sailing at the CBFC, which granted them an ‘A’ certification without any cuts, apart from a being asked to tone down a few abusive words.
The film which also stars Naseeruddin Shah, Gauahar Khan, Pallavi Sharda, Ila Arun, Chunky Pandey among others, shared the weekend box-office with the Vin Diesel Hollywood action franchise ‘Fast & Furious 8’.
